Appeal following assault in Birstall.

Officers in Birstall are appealing for witnesses after a woman was assaulted in a car park in Riverside Court.
The incident happened at around 8.30pm on Friday March 20, when the 38-year-old victim was walking to her car and was grabbed and pulled to the ground by a man who approached her from behind.
The victim then kicked the suspect in the left knee after which he walked out of the car park toward Wanlip Lane, nothing was stolen.
The victim later attended the Loughborough walk in centre for treatment to a swollen wrist.
The man was described as white, in his late thirties to early forties, of a large build with shoulder length hair and an unkempt appearance. He was wearing dark clothing and a long sleeved fleece jacket.
PC 163 Darren Chalk, the officer who is investigating the incident, said: "We are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the incident and seen a man matching this appearance.
"Do you perhaps know a man matching this description who has recently incurred a knee injury? Any information you may have on this incident could help us with our enquiries and we would urge you to contact us."
Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC 163 Darren Chalk on 0116 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 0163. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous on 0800 555 111.

Thief given chance to turn life around

An opportunistic thief who stole a car and other property from Longslade Community College staff has escaped an immediate jail sentence.

Heroin addict Graham Murney, who was described as having "a high risk of re-offending", was given a 20-week jail sentence, suspended for 12 months, with supervision from the probation service.

When he appeared at Leicester Crown Court on Friday 20th Mrch, he was told he was being given a chance. The 27-year-old was also ordered to complete a nine-month drug rehabilitation programme.

NHW Membership.

Yet again it has come to our notice that leaflets are being distributed in the area asking for an £8.00 membership fee for membership of a NHW group.

Members of the Birstall and Wanlip Village Watch should completely ignore these leaflets.

If you are a member of Birstall and Wanlip Watch, you are automatically part of North Leicestershire NHW Association, the Leicestershire and Rutland NHW Association and the Neighbourhood and Home Watch Network (National Association). All of whom are registered with and recognised by the police. No further membership is required.
