Thefts From Motor Vehicles

In the past seven days there has been eight incidents of Thefts From Motor Vehicles in the village.  All of these incidents happened overnight.

Nine Riggs Square – 13/14 March,  Lady Augusta Road – 14/15 March,  Johnson Road – 11/12 March, Cedar Avenue -13/14 March, Fielding Road – 7/8 March, Cliffwood Avenue – 11/12 – March, Greengate Lane – 13/14 March and Front Street – 7/8 March.

In the Front Street and Fielding Road incidents the vehicle locks were damaged to gain entry.  All others had no forced entry.  Items were stolen from the vehicles in all incidents.

We strongly recommend that all valuables are removed from vehicles overnight.  We believe it is far better to carry such items to and from the vehicles in a bag than to risk letting thieves get their hands on them.

Lifeline type alarms – Cold Callers

We have been informed about a company called Rancom Security which is cold calling locally, offering a Lifeline type alarm system to elderly and vulnerable residents at overinflated prices.  Contact is often initially made by telephone, and then an appointment is arranged where the resident is pressurised into signing an expensive contract.

If you, or any one you know is considering such an alarm, they are available through Charnwood Borough Council at a cost of £200 per year, with an installation fee of £30.

Wherever possible, please keep an eye on vulnerable neighbours or family members to avoid them becoming victims of this and similar high pressure sales of unnecessarily expensive equipment.
