We have received the following warning today via the Leicestershire County NHW :-
Don’t fall for a credit card scam in which Nottinghamshire residents have already been targeted.
One person in Hucknall was duped into handing over their bank details and card today (Tuesday 29 April 2014) while others in Mansfield, Ashfield and Nottingham have also reported being targeted.
In all incidents, a call was made to the victim by a man claiming to be a police officer.
The bogus officer said he was investigating credit card fraud and asked for verification of the person’s account number before arranging for a courier to collect the credit card.
Mansfield Inspector Carl Holland said: “One person has already fallen victim to this scam and we don’t want the same thing to happen to anyone else.
“No matter how plausible a person sounds on the end of the phone, a police force would never send a courier to collect your bank card, even if we were investigating an incident of fraud.
“Be protective of your bank details, don’t read them out before verifying a person’s credentials and if you have even the slightest concern, hang up and call police immediately.”
If you think you have been targeted by this man call your local Police on 101.
