Detectives are investigating following a robbery at a travel shop in Birstall yesterday (Friday 12 December). Two men targeted Co-op Travel, in Sibson Road, at about 4.20pm where they threatened staff and stole a large quantity of money, including travellers cheques and foreign currency.
No one was injured in the incident but staff have been left incredibly shaken by the ordeal.
Both suspects are described as being black, about 6ft tall and of slim build. They were both wearing dark coloured clothing and balaclavas. They are believed to have run off in the direction of Wanlip Avenue.
Detective Constable 2129 Luke Brookes, who is investigating the robbery, said: “The area would have been busy at the time with lots of traffic passing through. If that’s your usual route home, or you were in the area around the time of the robbery, you may have seen what happened or saw the suspects before the incident. “Think back to last night, did you see two men acting suspiciously? If you did, call us immediately. “Equally, if you have been offered any large amounts of foreign currency or travellers cheques for sale, or know someone who has, we want to hear from you.”
