Aqua-marine coloured car sought following theft
Police are appealing for information following the theft of a satellite navigation system from a car parked on Paget Avenue in Birstall.

The incident happened at about 8.50am on Monday January 30, 2006, as the vehicle was parked on the driveway of a house. The owner of the vehicle who was inside at the time heard the sound of glass smashing and a loud car exhaust.

When he went to his car he found that the driver’s front window had been smashed and his satellite navigation system, a Medion PDA MDPNA 100 worth £350, had been stolen.

PC Stuart Parker of Syston local policing unit said, “We have received reports that an aqua marine coloured small car, possibly a Citroen Saxo, left the scene at speed, pulling out in front of another car as it did so. Both cars then drove off in the same direction.

“It may be that the aqua marine coloured car was not involved and I’d urge the driver to come forward so they can be eliminated from our investigation. I’d also like to speak with the driver of the second vehicle who may be a vital witness and I urge that person to come forward and talk to us as soon as possible.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC 1841 Stuart Parker of Syston local policing unit on 0116 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer’s identification number 1841. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous on 0800 555 111.

SAT-NAV thefts.
The theft of SAT-NAV units from vehicles is now quite common. There have been incidents of this type in the Birstall and Wanlip area.

Please take all possible precautions against theft.

If the unit is removable, take it with you when leaving the vehicle parked.

Mark all units so that they can be identified if recovered, this can be essential evidence in a prosecution.
