Couple conned in Birstall
Officers from Syston local policing unit are appealing for public help after a couple were conned in Birstall.

The victims were at a car boot sale in Mountsorrel on Sunday July 9 when they were approached by three men who were selling laptop computers at knockdown prices.

The men insisted that they would only accept cash and agreed with the victims that they would drive to a cashpoint machine in Birstall to obtain the cash.

The victims were shown a laptop computer and after a slight disagreement about the price a sale was agreed and the couple were handed a black canvas laptop holdall.

Whilst the victims were driving home they opened the holdall only to discover that it contained two catalogues and some cardboard.

The offenders were all white and aged between 25-30 years old. They were driving a red Rover car, which may have had a partial registration number starting with N and ending with the letters HOM.

Arrests for Burglaries
There have been a number of arrests in connection with recent burglaries in the villages. In almost all of the arrests the initial information came from residents telephoning in to the police reporting suspicious activity.
This sort of vigilance does work and can achieve spectacular results.
If you see anything that looks suspicious or you are not happy about, do not hesitate to report it on (0116) 2222222.

Five Burglaries in a Week
Over the weekend and this week there have been five burglaries, which have taken place in:
  • Elmfield Road
  • Rectory Road
  • Birstall Road
  • Riverside Court and
  • StonehillAvenue
The latest one was at approximately 2.00 am this morning on Stonehill Avenue and the police would like residents to check their own properties, particularly to look for any evidence eg gloves, bolt croppersetc which may have been discarded in their gardens.

Also if you heard any noise at that time or saw anyone in the vicinity, the details may help to provide information that could lead to an arrest.

Residents are warned to be vigilant and to report any suspicions immediately on (0116) 222 2222
