Suspicious fire in Worcester Avenue.
At about 1.00 am on Saturday September 8th, a silver estate car was damaged in Worcester Avenue, Birstall.

The rear of the car was set alight which caused extensive damage and rendered the vehicle unusable.

A similar incident took place in August in the same area, where a vehicle was damaged by fire and although at this stage these incidents are not being linked, officers would like to speak to anyone who knows anything about either incident.

Please report any information on (0116) 2222222 quoting incident number NH/02896/07-3.

Red Cross collections.
A member has called the Watch to query about a door to door collector for the British Red Cross. The collection of funds for the victims of the recent floods were mentioned and the collector wanted a Direct Debit mandate, not cash.

We have checked with the British Red Cross and this is the method they use and as far as we can tell the collector was genuine. They have informed us that all collectors will have at least a partial uniform (badges etc) and carry ID.

Whilst we recognise and support the work done by the Red Cross, our advice remains the same. Be very very careful about disclosing your bank details to anyone, especially door step callers. If you wish to make donations of this nature, our advice is to make arrangements through either the telephone or post to an official address.
