Numbers to check the identity of callers to your house, such as meter readers
Many gas and electricity companies use specialist meter reading companies to read their meters. The main numbers are:
|
Accuread Meter Reader 0800 393 499 Siemens Meter Reader 0115 906 6850 IMSERV 0800 068 8562 MeterPlus 0800 073 0030 Metering Services Ltd 0800 169 4667 Severn Trent Water (Water Board) 0800 783 4444 Transco (Gas Board) 01623 415839
Always use a telephone number given to you by an independent third party such as the Watch or the Police to confirm
the identity of a meter reader. Never use a number given to you by the person at your door.
You should only use 999 in an emergency - for example when life is in danger or a crime is being committed. Otherwise use 0116 222 2222 in a non-emergency - for example not requiring immediate police attendance. |
